Digital Collection
The portal of digitized heritage is a service the Poreč City Library offers as a result of the digitization project. The beginnings of the materials’ digitization in the library happened in 2002, with the printed edition of PoZiCa’s literary and art works and the Pozica CD-ROM. The first digitized site started in 2009, and the Poreč City Library became the first public library in Istria whose digitized editions were available to everyone on the net, from real and potential users to interested tourists.
Local heritage is particularly important in the promotion and evaluation of the cultural site, so the first digitized publication was “Srdačno Vaš Poreč” by Drago Orlić.
The aim of the project is a multimedia presentation of textual, image and audio records, especially the significant cultural values of the native heritage of our region and their promotion using the most modern technologies and digitization procedures.
The transfer of the material in electronic format allows the public to have a permanent access to the digital content.
With this project our library has joined the group of advanced heritage institutions aiming to promote cultural-tourism potential, e-learning and cultural cooperation. The digitization of materials opens new possibilities for the implementation of cultural tourism in the public library business and contributes to the promotion of Poreč and Istria County and of the Croatian heritage in general.
The local collection is part of a national fund and a valuable source of information either in a scientific research or in getting to know the local topics. Due to the specificity of the local heritage, a gradual development of the portal is envisaged in accordance with the needs of the users. There are various opportunities for presenting cultural heritage from e-postcards to virtual exhibitions “Antika na dlanu”, which represents the archaeological site in our library, as a form of communication and confirmation of the local cultural identity and its protection.
